Kenmore Dryer Error Codes

Kenmore dryer error codes & what they mean

Your Kenmore dryer is flashing a code — here's what it's telling you, whether you can fix it yourself, and when to call an OKC dryer specialist. Codes can vary by model year, so confirm against your manual.

Call (405) 254-8838

F22

Call a technician

Exhaust thermistor fault (Whirlpool-built models).

Likely cause: Many Kenmore dryers are built by Whirlpool, so they share codes — F22 is a failed exhaust thermistor.

What to do: The thermistor needs replacement; have the wiring checked too.

F01

Call a technician

Main control board failure.

Likely cause: Electronic control board fault.

What to do: Usually requires board service or replacement.

dE

Often DIY

Door error.

Likely cause: Door not sensing closed — strike or switch.

What to do: Make sure the door latches firmly; if it persists, replace the switch.

88 / 8888

Check airflow, then call

Control board reset / error display.

Likely cause: Often a power or control board glitch.

What to do: Unplug for a minute and restart. If it returns, the board needs service.

AF

Check airflow, then call

Restricted airflow.

Likely cause: Clogged vent or lint screen.

What to do: Clean the lint screen and full vent run. Persisting after that means call us.

Many of these trace back to airflow. Heating and temperature codes are frequently caused by a clogged vent, not a broken part. Before paying for a component, start with our free vent inspection — and if it's the dryer, we'll repair it the same visit.
