Whirlpool Dryer Error Codes

Whirlpool dryer error codes & what they mean

Your Whirlpool dryer is flashing a code — here's what it's telling you, whether you can fix it yourself, and when to call an OKC dryer specialist. Codes can vary by model year, so confirm against your manual.

F22

Call a technician

Exhaust thermistor (temperature sensor) fault — open circuit.

Likely cause: A failed exhaust thermistor or its wiring harness.

What to do: The thermistor needs replacement; a technician should confirm the wiring too.

F01

Call a technician

Main control board failure.

Likely cause: A fault on the main electronic control board.

What to do: Typically requires control board service or replacement.

PF

Often DIY

Power failure — the cycle was interrupted.

Likely cause: Power loss during the cycle.

What to do: Press start to resume. Recurring without outages means the board needs a look.

AF

Check airflow, then call

Restricted airflow.

Likely cause: A clogged vent or lint screen restricting exhaust.

What to do: Clean the lint screen and vent. If it persists after a full vent cleaning, call us.

E1

Call a technician

Thermistor short or open.

Likely cause: Temperature sensor failure or wiring issue.

What to do: Have the sensor and wiring tested.

Many of these trace back to airflow. Heating and temperature codes are frequently caused by a clogged vent, not a broken part. Before paying for a component, start with our free vent inspection — and if it's the dryer, we'll repair it the same visit.
